Ph. D. Mathematics Education

Program Description
The Mathematics Education Doctoral Program focuses on original research in many areas of mathematics education. The Mathematics Education Program prepares students for research and teaching in a context that is rigorous, collegial, and cooperative.
The following are guidelines for the creation of a Program of Study for the Mathematics Education doctoral degree. These guidelines comprise only a portion of the requirements necessary to earn a doctoral degree in Mathematics Education.
Research and Dissertation (42 semester hours, minimum)

- Qualitative Studies in Education
- Behavioral Methods I & II
- Evaluation & Supervision of Instruction
- 30 Hours of Research & Dissertation ?
- Foundations (12 semester hours, minimum)
- Advanced Educational Psychology
- Constructivism in Education
- Schooling in American Society
- Education of Exceptional Learners
- Cognitive Processes & Educational Practice
- Advanced Curriculum and Instruction in Mathematics
- Advanced Curriculum and Instruction in Elementary and Middle School Mathematics
- Research in Mathematics Education
- Research in Teacher Education
- Other courses
- Any Mathematics course approved for graduate credit
Concentration (27 semester hours, minimum)
Cognate (12 semester hours, minimum)
Admission Information
To be considered for the doctoral program in Mathematics Education, a student must:
- Possess a master's degree
- Qualify for admission to the Graduate School
- 3.0 Grade Point Average
- Submit 3 letters of reference
- Complete an interview with the Mathematics Education program faculty
- Submit a current vita
- Submit a writing sample of scholarly work
