I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning in the School of Education. In my research, I build models of how students construct number concepts. In particular, I am currently working on building models of how middle school students construct their integer (signed number) concepts. My other research interests include incorporating results from learning research into mathematics education policy and instruction.
My life as a mathematics educator started with six years as an 8-12 classroom teacher at The Chinquapin School [link to http://www.chinquapin.org/website/]. Along the way I have also had the opportunity to teach briefly in Texas and Georgia in a variety of K-16 classrooms. Currently, I teach methods courses for future elementary and secondary teachers.
